we had a fun day for my last day in Kindergarten! It is hard to say goodbye to the kindergarteners and Woodland Elementary but we had a blast! I hope the students have had as much fun as I have had! They will be missed and I wish them the best of luck in 1st grade!

Today we had our picnic over our lunch time! We had a great time enjoying this beautiful weather! We also had our class party today where we wore our pajamas and had some extra recess time! During art time today we learned all about Georges Seurat and how he painted. He painted in a way that was very time consuming. Georges painted one dot at a time and the masterpieces turned out amazing. Today the kiddos were able to create their own masterpieces one dot at a time. We used water colors, and the end of a pencil to create our paintings. They sure had fun with this project!
Today in P.E. we were able to play one of my favorite games...baseball! It is always fun for myself to see kids playing the game that I was fortunate enough to play for 14 years of my life. I saw the students having a blast today! They are naturals on the ball field; swinging the bat and throwing around the baseball. Mr. Collins even got a chance to swing for the fences!
We have been exploring different types of measurements during math time the past couple of days. Today we were able to explore what a centimeter is! We used centimeter cubes to measure various objects around the room. The students loved using the math manipulative during our work time today. They were able to collaborate and work with partners to bounce ideas off of each other and check their work!
Throughout the day we gain a lot of energy and tend to get restless and need to get our wiggles out. The way we do that in the classroom is by doing GoNoodles. Students enjoy dancing and moving their bodies to get wiggles out and refocus on what we are learning. There are many types of GoNoodles. There are dancing, relaxing, educational, and movement wiggle breaks. They all have a good intended purpose and it helps break up our transitions. The students almost enjoy doing the wiggle breaks as much as I do!
During our morning meeting we had a chance to catch up on what we did this weekend. I love hearing what the students did with their weekend. They love sharing with each other and listening to what everyone did. I was able to show off my awesome sun burn from fishing on Mille Lacs Lake. Despite the sunburn I was able to catch 60+ walleyes!Today in science we explored wood and sand paper. Students were given a piece of wood, sand paper, and a paper plate. They had the opportunity to see if using sand paper on the wood would change the shape or weight of it. The students had a blast as we turned it into a competition to see who could get their wood to be the smallest!
Today the Brooklyn Park Firefighters came in and gave a presentation on fire safety. The students learned what it means to be safe around fire and what to do in certain situations. Towards the end of the presentation we went outside and saw a firefighting demonstration. They had a real fire truck and sprayed a pretend fire with the water hose! Our class really enjoyed listening to the firefighters!
This week we have been exploring wood in science. Today we made a prediction on whether a piece of wood would float or sink in a bucket of water and tested our experiment. We found out that the wood floats in a bucket of water. Then we made a prediction to see how many paperclips would it take to sink the piece of wood. The students loved making a prediction and testing it with a piece of wood, rubber bands, and paper clips! |
